Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if you don’t shoot all 35 rolls of film? Is an adjustment in price made?
A: The package price is set so that film or money doesn’t become an issue while shooting. The price remains the same if 15 or 35 rolls are shot. Image making should be thought of in terms of quality, not quantity.
Q: Since proof albums are included in your package, why not offer a formal bridal album?
A: Photography is priority one and I want great images to be the focus. Albums are very personal and my tastes may vary greatly from yours, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction, but photography is what I know best.
Q: My mom wants some (but not a lot of) formals. Do you do those?
A: Of course! The formals and "posed" pictures always make there way into the wedding and I have plenty of experience shooting them, both inside and out, but remember the emphasis of this site: photojournalism. Documenting moments is the priority. If you prefer to see more formal pictures than "found moments," you should keep looking... there are lots of photographers out there for that.
Q: Do you use an assistant?
A: Many photographers use an assistant to carry their gear and load their cameras, but trained photojournalists are used to working on stories by themselves. No assistant means less distraction and I don’t have to worry about an assistant being in any of the pictures.
Q: Do you shoot black & white film?
A: Yes. I shoot primarily color negative film, but will mix in black & white when it is requested.
Q: Do you shoot medium format?
A:

I shoot all weddings in 35mm.While doing much of my editorial work in medium and large format, I have simplified my wedding equipment and use only 35mm, with the key reasons being: -36 exposures per roll vs. 12 exposures per roll -six-frames-a-second vs. one frame every few seconds -ease of changing film -speed and ease of one set of gear and lenses

Capturing moments is the key when shooting your wedding and using the equipment that I have used in working on journalism assignments makes that possible. All moments on this site are captured as they happen, not re-enacted as many commercial "wedding photographers" do.

Q: How many cameras do you shoot with?
A: I shoot with two camera bodies and an assortment of lenses. All gear hangs on my shoulders or in my waist pack for quick access. There is also back up gear of another film body, as well as a digital body.
Q: Is it true you need medium format if you want to make enlargements?
A: NO. Color negative technology has come a long way and today’s film’s can make 11"x14" prints that look amazing! Many medium format wedding photographers will try to dismiss anyone shooting in 35mm, compare the work before you make a decision. If you’re looking to make a 20"x24" print, they’ll win when it comes to the size of the grain. If you want your day documented and the moments captured, the decision should be easy.
Q: Do you travel?
A: Yes! Please call to discuss your travel plans.
